Air to Air Photography is my biggest passion and involves the art of photographing an aircraft in the air from another aircraft. It certainly requires a special skill set whilst both the photo platform and subject aircraft manoeuvre in close formation at low level to create a dynamic image. Certainly challenging, yet the most rewarding form of aviation photography. Add to that, the element of a famous landmark or a specific backdrop, the ideal angle, the perfect light and the most desirable shot, soon becomes a tough task.
For this very reason, such perfect results can only be achieved with thorough comprehensive briefings between pilots, photographer and even liaising with local Air Traffic Control whenever possible to ensure all parties are working together and everyone understands the objective of the particular assignment.
Having flown numerous Fast Jet and Rotary photo assignments for the Royal Navy (Fleet Air Arm), The Royal Air Force (RAF), Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF), The US Air Force Europe (USAFE), The Royal Norweigan Air Force (RNoAF), The Swedish Air Force and countless private General Aviation owners, I can confidently say these are the images I always enjoy looking back on. Nothing is more satisfying for me, than capturing an aircraft in the air.
