During the summer of 2007,and 8 weeks away from the Eifel region in Germany, The 52nd Fighter Wing's three fighter squadrons began returning to their Spangdahlem home on Wednesday the 1st of August after deploying as far away as Las Vegas because of runway resurfacing. The Runway was operationally out of service from June 15th, with the USAFE taking the opportunity to accomplish a number of other important repairs and improvements across the airfield that otherwise might not be accomplished for a while during normal operations. However the impact would be felt from further afield as the USAF Air Mobility Command (AMC) classify Spangdalhem as one of AMC's primary European hubs which was why the decision was taken to make the repairs over the better weather Summer period minimising disruption to global operations.

High over the North Sea on the 20th of July, six A10s of the 81st Fighter Squadron, Spangdahlem join our KC135(R) from the 100th ARW at RAF Mildenhall for some gas.

During the temporary relocation to Lakenheath, 14 A10 Tankbusters operated throughout the UK making wide use of the low fly system, dropping live ordnance on several ranges in both England and Wales as well as Participating in exercises with U.S. F-15s and RAF Eurofighter Typhoons, which also involved a series of close-air support missions with British troops on the ground. In addition to the operational side, numerous A10s made welcomed static appearances on the Airshow circuit.
